Nothing but the full powered champion of legend could handle a darkspawn mage that apparently makes the power of the ancient magisters PALE in comparison. Being champion and being respected by Qunari (if you earned the Arishok's respect anyway) make it the most sense why Tallis would seek you out and why you would be so respected.
